Multiplying fractions is the most straight forward operation with fractions. To multiply two (or more) fractions, we multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators. Then, we write the new fraction in simplest form.

For example:

  • If we have a mixed number, we have to change it into an improper fraction before we can multiply it with another fraction.

TASK: How do you think we would multiply a whole number and a fraction? For example, how would we multiply Multiplying_Fractions_2.jpg?
